Shelby's Sunflower Kids Volunteering: Part One

Last Wednesday I had to opportunity to go & serve for a couple hours at Sunflower Kids. When I arrived, I was told I would be calling & fundraising for the silent auction portion of the benefit. I had a few places to call to see if a donation was possible. The first was for a donation of a 1-2 night stay in Orlando near Disney World. Unfortunately, I didn't have much luck with this, even after calling 10+ hotels. The management said they either already had contributed to other non-profits, or that they didn't donate like that. The next two places I called for a hotel were in Santa Claus, Indiana, and St. Louis, Missouri. I didn't have much luck with these either, which was a bummer.

Cartoon me, volunteering away!
Luckily, everyone at Sunflower Kid's saw my efforts, & they were happy we got at least a few contacts of hotels who could maybe help in the future. It was nice to serve in a positive environment where volunteer work was so appreciated. As I was wrapping up my volunteer work, I got to see a few vistiations happening. It was really neat to see Sunflower Kids in action, & rewarding to see where my efforts as a volunteer would pay off. I can't wait to go back!

Until next time,
Shelby

  1. I don't think I had much luck when I helped with fundraising either, but I had to send emails instead of making phone calls, so I didn't ever get to find out if anyone actually donated.
