Last Sunday, October 25th, I volunteered with Sunflower Kids again! Below I've added a few images related to my experience, as well as a video that explains the more personal reasons behind confidentiality rules, since confidentiality directly impacted my volunteering experience reflection. (Please ignore the awful thumbnail on this video, as well!)

I organized about six or seven stacks of files, some of which were about this size and some of which were MUCH bigger! |
Not being from KY, I had no idea that there was a law stating that a kid can see their parents no matter what, even in situations of drug abuse and domestic violence. Clearly, this is a personal matter, and that's why confidentiality is so important. My plan is to become a nurse, but for really any health related profession I know that I will be held to a standard of confidentiality. Like you said in the video, that means you can't tell us much, but that also means that the families' privacy is protected.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the law either until I started volunteering with SFK, and it's really been interesting trying to understand it! It's definitely good that you're going into your profession already knowledgeable about confidentiality though, since I know that it's a difficult concept to accommodate sometimes.
